125 years of experience

IN 2020, OBRIST CELEBRATED ITS 125TH ANNIVERSARY.

Franz Josef Obrist founded the company in 1895. At Obrist, we have continuously implemented our founder’s ideas with no major alterations for 125 years and have remained unconditionally committed to the excellence of our craft. Using all our passion and experience, we shall combine the finest materials with modern technologies also in future, in order to create outstanding and classy shop and residential interiors.


  1. 1895

    Franz Josef Obrist founds his own company under the name Obrist and runs a small workshop in a basement.
  2. 1914

    Already well-known for bonding frameless glass, Obrist is commissioned by Suchard to make a glass cover for a model of the factory displayed at the National Exhibition in 1914.
  3. 1920

    Gottfried, Wilhelm, Alfons and Karolina Obrist together take over the management of the company.
  4. 1927

    In 1927, Obrist buys the Reussinsel site from von Moos steelworks in Lucerne. It remains the company headquarters’ and production site’s location until the end of 2017.
  5. 1965

    Obrist supplies display cabinets for the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.
  6. 1976

    The company decides to boost its exports in a bid to combat the recession. From the first shop in Jeddah, foreign operations begin to become an increasingly important part of the business.
  7. 1995

    Obrist's 100th anniversary.
  8. 2004

    Change of ownership: Stefan Slamanig takes over the enterprise from the Obrist family ownership. The company has 60 employees.
  9. 2010

    New company subsidiary in America: Obrist interior America Inc. is founded.
  10. 2016

    The company has a new look for 2016. Fine lettering and a simple pictogram replace the previous blue, slightly technical-looking logo.
  11. 2018

    Obrist moves to its new headquarters in Inwil, canton of Lucerne. The new building is fitted with state-of-the-art infrastructures for all production and administration processes.
  12. 2019

    Obrist's partner company, Studio Tonic, operating in store and interior design, as well as technical planning, is founded.
  13. 2020

    Obrist’s 125th anniversary year is being celebrated fittingly with various activities organized for customers, technical college students and pupils from local schools.
  14. 2021

    The largest overseas project in Obrist's history: TimeMachine, Bucherer's flagship store in New York.
  15. 2023

    New branch office in Germany: Obrist interior GmbH is founded.
